Champions and SmogCon part 1

This is the first time I went to SmogCon and it is the biggest con I have been at. I were at Iron moot last summer and ClogCon in november. Both were really great and I plan to go again this year. When the new edition came and champions were revealed I was quite excited about the format, both because of the limited number of casters/locks, but also because it is fully painted. A friend and I end up being the only danes in the tournament at Iron moot which were the first place we tried the format, and soon we end up battling for the title as the Danish Champion.

I played Convergence of Cyriss at Iron Moot and it ended up with me being just over him in the rankings, so I took the title until we went to ClogCon. Here I played Skorne and I struggled to get Hexeris1 to work paired with Morghoul1. He beat me by far, so he took the title this time.

Therefore SmogCon was the tiebreaker and we were quite focused on this event.

As the errata landed in january I started preparing and ended up with a Naaresh/Mordikaar pairing.

Some choices were compromised do to painting, but both lists are pretty solid. My biggest concern were lists with a lot of high armor since I didn’t think that the Mordikaar list could handle it.

First game - Outlast

As I fear armor with the Mordikaar list, the choice of Naaresh was obvious since he had 5 heavies and man-o-wars in one of the list. He went with Koslov

Kozlov
Sylys vysnelyr
Marauder x 2
2 x devastator
Ruin
Manowars ua
Solo
Kell
Marksman

He wins the roll off and chooses to be player one. On my left is a wall just outside the zone and in the zone is a patch of rough terrain with dense fog on it. In the middle there is a building on his side, a forest on my side and a Lake In the center. By the zone on my right is a trench a bit in the zone and a hill just out of the zone on his side. He sets up his man-o-wars and the solo on my rights with Ruin by their side, followed up by devastator, marauder, devastator and the last marauder. He advances up, his forces being kind of split by the building. Kell and the marksman er on my left advancing up In the zone the entire army end up being on a parallel with the table just on the edge of the zones

I setup the wall In the middle and set up my rhinodons behind it. Both archidons go behind the wall, the one furthest up has Blur on it. Next to them the raider stands ready to shoot some snipers. Shaman an gladiator stats behind In the middle, and on the Rights i have my krea and drake.

On his second turn he chooses to use his feat to get as much scenario presence as possible, since my threats In general is better than his. This lets me use my feat to inflict major damage taking out two Jacks damaging two others. The only one which ends up undamage is ruin. Drake and krea manages to take out a couple of man-o-wars. My feat also stops him from doing much of retaliation and in the end I win on scenario with only losing a Drake and a rhinodon while he only has Koslov and Sylys left standing. He  underestimate my feat and it gave me a big edge all through the game.
